Back to Basics – Las Vegas / New York 2012

With our high season slowly coming to an end, its this time of year we always treasure to get back on track with the things we love, refuel the creative juices and reflect on the way forward! We have been talking about a re-brand for some time now as we last did this when we started out some 5 years ago! We are super excited to share our new look and feel, still very ‘Tyme’ just a clearer ‘in’ to who we are and what we love. We hope to help you clearly see what its is we are so passionate about that we breath, eat and sleep photography, imagery, light, lines, textures, color and all things yummy! Earlier this year we traveled to the WPPI as you may know to be inspired, learn, take in, and pretty much just open ourselves to the international wedding photography community! I firmly believe you can only learn that which you have opened yourself up to! So although we weren’t expecting a huge revelation or eye opening, it was awesome to just see how others do the thing that takes up so much of our own lives. At the end of it all, learning from some of the industry greats like: Cliff Mautner, Jose’ Villa, Jerry Ghionis, Greg Gibson and the likes of, it really boils down to one thing: we are so grateful that we can do something we love everyday! Whether the techniques, change, evolve, improve, differ from others, really this is what my eye sees, I’m so privileged that you want to look through mine from time to time!

These are just a few things we loved about another trip to the USA: Wide open spaces, a road trip, red velvet cake, Starbucks, everything BIG, textures, color, bright lights, meatball subs from SUBWAY, snow, city skylines, watching people, walking allot, city parks, some of the worlds greatest museums, street performers, skyscrapers, weird looking people, New York!

Welcome back everyone! We hope you had a great holiday and feeling refreshed and ready for what lies ahead in 2012! We are back in full swing with our first

wedding this Saturday in Sun City and then on to Botswana on Sunday! We have hit the ground running and happy to get our eyes in for the season ahead!

People always ask if we take photo’s on our holidays, since seeing our gear kinda gives us the feeling of work, we left our kit at home this Decemeber armed

only with our Blackberry’s. But there is no stopping the eyes from always seeing a great shot! Below are some snaps from our trip to the fairest Cape! We will

be seeing a lot more of you this year Cape Town! We have many things to look forward to this year, including our trip to the WPPI in Vegas next month, some

awesome destination weddings, a re-branding and new website, new albums, and hopefully some added new wicked skills! We look forward to sharing some

creative interchanges with you all! All the best for 2012!

We don’t often post much about our personal life here, but this post is so special to us because it’s about some very special people in our lives and we were

so inspired by seeing two people we love so much embark on such a wonderful adventure, it really made us sit back and think, really at the end of the day,

what are we doing all of it for! Coming from a family of 6 children and Dylan from a small family of two kids, but all of us very close, family is always a big

part of who we are. We are already so blessed with two handsome nephews and a beautiful niece, but recently added to our reasons for joy with the sweetest

little thing called ‘Coco’. This is her at 4 weeks!

When Antoinette called to move her wedding date forward a few months because her mom was suffering from cancer, we were happy to bring the date

forward so her mom could enjoy the day with her! Of course we were so sad to arrive at the wedding to capture her big day only to hear her mom had

passed a few weeks before the wedding! This was such an emotional wedding and we were honored to be allowed to capture some awesome moments! I cant

wait to share a full post soon!

A friend recently showed me her parents wedding album who had recently just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and it was AWESOME! So classic

and timeless! We were so inspired to shoot Antoinette’s wedding in a series of images that would outlive them, with Tyme’s little spin on it of course! Here is

one of my favorite bridal portraits!

With his baby finally arriving from Cape Town its all cappuccinos and red espresso’s the Tyme way! Don’t forget to take time outta of your busy day for

Jozie city tour – Through the lens

So last weekend I had a chance to enjoy a historical walking tour of Jozie lead by the peeps (Jo & co) @ Past Experiences, wiew website HERE.

The purpose of this tour was to look back in history and view jozie from it’s early days by viewing old images in a booklet provided by “past experiences”

and walking to some of those old buildings that are still around… It is not only enlightening but a fun day out. The tour leader was Tania, she

gave us some additional background and info! There were about 3o or so of us that pitched and off we went, the tour is ended off with a complimentary

drink at the 120 year old (or more) Guildhall. Below are some images i managed to capture with my old Canon AE1 35mm film camera with 28mm Fd lens

given to me as a gift from my good old buddy Giovanni. Thanks bro! This was one of the first canon film camera’s

to come out with electronics CPU starting in 1976… Check it out below!!!

Here are some comparisons between current buildings and what they used to look like originally. Old picture credits go to research from past experiences

collected from “Johannesburg one hundred”, “through the red revolt on the rand” and “the johannesburg saga”.

Top Billing Magazine

This May 2011 Issue of Top Billing Magazine contained an awesome 3 page spread of one of our fav weddings to date. We were no doubt super happy to be featured again, but best of all this shows people that we don’t need to stick to the traditional style of wedding. This bohemian style wedding illustrates just this! Remember it is also the little details that make a big impact!

Last week we had our Photo’s featured in the You Mag, no doubt GC & Lorna made this edition shine with their awesome wedding. We shot this on 30 Dec last year to close off with a bang! Lorna currently is an amazing presenter for Top Billing and well GC Ive heard can not only organize you some of the best cars around but spin them wheels like a demon on redbull! Well done GC & L for an amazing wedding, all the best for the future and many babies for you too!

We were privileged to be featured in Destiny Magazine recently. Sihle and Edmund as you can see were an amazing couple and their little one was so cute.

We’ve had many clients ask why we were not at the wedding expo this weekend at the northgate dome as we usually are.

Well just to set your minds at ease, we are still avid expo supporters, we will be there again in September. We have just decided to try some other avenues of advertising to widen our target market. Hope you all enjoyed the expo, we did go through on sunday afternoon to see whats happening and network with some of our collegues. Otherwise it was a busy weekend with two successfull shoots on friday and saturday, as you would have noticed from my two posts. Hope you have a great week!
